Midtown Madness – computer racing game , produced by American studio Angel Studios and published by Microsoft . Its demo version is available for download on 1 May 1999, and the full version was issued on 27 May. Its sequel , Midtown Madness 2 , was released in April 2000 and the last in the series, Midtown Madness 3 , was released in June 2002 for the console Xbox . Action Midtown Madness takes place in Chicago . The aim of the game is conquering theillegal races urban and acquisition of new vehicles.
In contrast to contemporary racing games, which limited maneuvers player to the racetrack, Midtown Madness offered free exploration of Chicago. This part of the game was described by Microsoft as “an unprecedented degree of freedom to travel around the virtual city” [7] . Midtown Madness offers four modes of single player game : Blitz, Circuit, Checkpoint and Cruise. In the Blitz mode, the player must arrive on time for the designated purpose; Circuit mode must win against opponents in the race; Checkpoint mode is similar to Blitz, except that in order to reach interfere police cars; Cruise mode the player simply explore the city. Players are divided it into two teams – each of them must steal the opposite side of the gold and carry them to their hideout.
Midtown Madness was the first game produced on personal computers by Angel Studios [10] (now Rockstar San Diego , part of the studio Rockstar Games ). Her name alluded to Microsoft previously released games: Motocross Madness , and Monster Truck Madness . Midtown Madness stood out among contemporary style racing game Need for Speed ability to move freely around the world created by the developers [7] . Clint Keith said in an interview with IGN that the idea for the design was to make the game more diverse gameplay and allow the use of abbreviations, so that the player could reach the finish line faster [7] .
